CARA APPOINTS JON MORGAN AS CHAIR
Jon Morgan has been appointed as the new Chair of Cara (Sport Inclusion Ireland).
Jon has been a Board Member of Cara since March 2018, although his relationship with the organisation started over a decade ago when he first spoke at the National Inclusion Seminar in 2005.
In taking up the position as Chair of Cara, Jon brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience which will ensure that Cara continues to deliver on its strategic vision of putting disability sport and inclusive physical activity at the heart of the nation.
Jon has a long association with disability sport having served as CEO of Disability Sport Wales from 2002 – ’16. During that period, opportunities for people with disabilities in Wales to participate in sport and activity rose from 1,200 to over 1.2 million per year. Jon also serves in the position as Vice-Chair of Commonwealth Games Wales, and is a board member for BISFed, the World Governing Body for the Paralympic sport of boccia.
Taking up the role as Chair, Jon shared:
‘I am honoured to be appointed as Chair of Cara and at such an exciting time for inclusive sport in Ireland. It is inspiring to work with such a committed and passionate team as well as a progressive Board who are driven by the goal of continual improvement.
The future for inclusive sport looks bright, but it can only be achieved through a focussed approach and hardwork. As a sector, we carry a huge responsibility to ensure that we continue to improve inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities, a challenge that I am sure we are ready to meet. Partnership will be key to achieving this vision and I look forward to meeting our many key stakeholders and partners at our National Seminar for Inclusion on the 21st of November’.

Cara’s mission is to work in collaboration with the disability, sporting, community and statutory bodies to provide people with disabilities with enhanced opportunities to participate in the sport and physical activity of their choice. * Jon Morgan has a BA in History & Politics and is a former Board Member of the British Paralympic Association and the Welsh Sports Association. Jon was the CEO of Disability Sports Wales for over 15 years (2002-2017). Jon is the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for Commonwealth Games Wales.
