A role for everyone in sport – exploring the empowerment needs of people with disabilities across sport and physical activity.

Invitation to Tender

Active Disability Ireland invites tenders from suitably qualified individuals or service providers to deliver research support services for a funded research project titled “A role for everyone in sport – exploring the empowerment needs of people with disabilities across sport and physical activity.” This project is funded by Sport Ireland through the Research and Evaluation Grant Scheme and is led by Active Disability Ireland in collaboration with academic partners. The research aims to explore how people with disabilities understand empowerment and to identify the barriers and supports that influence participation in meaningful roles within sport and physical activity, including leadership, advocacy, volunteering, and community engagement. The study will use a mixed-methods, participatory approach, incorporating surveys, interviews, and focus groups with people with disabilities.

The successful tenderer will be awarded the contract for services and will collaborate with project lead, Rob Purcell, Insights Officer at Active Disability Ireland, and the wider project team to deliver the agreed research activities within the contract period:

  • The development and refinement of accessible data collection instruments (e.g. surveys, interview and focus group guides)
  • Assisting with project ethical approval application
  • Supporting participant recruitment through disability networks and partner organisations
  • Data collection through interviews, focus groups, and electronic surveys
  • Assisting with qualitative data transcription and analysis
  • Carrying out administrative and research support tasks related to the delivery of the project, and any additional duties reasonably required within the scope and level of the post

This project offers an opportunity to contribute to inclusive, disability-led research that aims to inform policy and practice in sport and physical activity in Ireland.

Competency and Expertise Requirements

  • A degree (Level 8 NFQ) related to physical activity, sport, disability or other related areas.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with external stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work independently and within a project team to achieve results.
  • Highly motivated with excellent organisational skills.
  • Research experience with qualitative data collection and analysis

Remuneration and commitments

  • €1500 per month to be invoiced each month
  • 72 hours per month / 18 hours per week
  • Duration: 6 (For immediate start)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Remote working
