Activity/Program:
Following a collaboration between DLR Sports Partnership, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, The Bike Hub and Cycling Without Age, older adults and people with a disability can now book a range of inclusive bikes to cycle along the Coastal Mobility Route in Dun Laoghaire.
This new inclusive fleet includes two electric rickshaws which are designed to carry one or two people with a mobility issue at the front and allow them to enjoy the sensation of cycling with the wind in their hair. Older adults and people with limited mobility now have the opportunity to go on a cycle at an easy pace, taking in the sights and sounds of the coastline of the CMR, whatever the weather.
This new inclusive bike fleet also has a range of other bikes including a wheelchair bike, tandem bike, handcycle and specialised trikes for hire by children or adults with a disability. The bikes are located at and hired for free from The Bike Hub, located at Dún Laoghaire harbour, across from the existing R.N.L.I. shop. An online booking portal is available at www.thebikehub.ie for members of the public to select the appropriate bike and slot they require. The Bike Hub staff will then be on site to facilitate this as well as assist with the correct use of these bikes.

Activity/Program:
We will be hosting both a Zoom and practical session for Introducing people with mental & physical disabilities to open water swimming. The Zoom session will take place on the 20th of July from 19.00-20.00.
The virtual classroom will be an information hour on the introduction of open water swimming for people with disabilities, going through the benefits and opportunities available. I will discuss the program we run through special Olympics in Clontarf baths, lakes, and the sea.
We will also talk about how to join a club and get involved in events and competitions. We will have two athletes on the evening to talk about their experiences and journeys from starting open water swimming to competing internationally for Ireland.
Then we will be detailing the Lough Lene swim we have planned for Sunday 24th and inviting anyone who wants to try it out. We will finish off with a Q & A session. Please Look under events in Westmeath or see info below.
The practical session will take place at Lough Lene from 16.00-17.00. The practical session in lough Lene will be roughly an hour long. Starting off at 4pm with a welcoming talk and a safety briefing. We will then have an opportunity for people to try a swim with different distances marked out on the lake
Both sessions will be delivered by our tutor Alan McCormack, who is an expert in open water swimming and also works closely with the Special Olympics.
